Surviving Christmas the Nutty Way

Okay, maybe 'surviving' is a little too strong a word. After all, Christmas is the best time of the year...

Greetings, my fellow Nutt-crackers! (See what I just did there? *wink*)

With the air-con at full blast, a scalding cup of hot tea and a scented candle burning beside my bedside, it is as cold as a winter wonderland as it can get for me to write this festive blog. So, let's begin!

It's that time of the year again where telling a strange fat old man in red your greatest wish and desire is completely normal, and giving him the right to judge whether you've been naughty or nice this whole year. Since I live in Malaysia, the school holidays I get that's equivalent to a summer vacation is mostly from November till December. I guess it's safe to say that I can officially procrastinate all day long and hide away from my responsibilities without having people to nag me about it. So let me just share with you guys what I've been doing for the past 2 months.

Christmas Gifts Making

As the old-fashioned person that I am, I strongly believe that hand-made gifts with a heartfelt message attached to it is able to show the receiver the ample amount of effort and compassion that has been put into the gift-making sessions, that they would not mistaken me as a cheapskate. Therefore, for this season of giving, I thought I would fill my time making something that would make my friends smile. Truth be told, this is actually one of my favorite past time, albeit pretty time and energy consuming. To add a little twist in it, I was aiming for a little 'ice-cream stick' themed presents, that's why all of the presents you see are made of said sticks.

Having a Matt-rathon

The Crown

Question time! How do you distract yourself from the fact that you have way too many friends to make tokens of appreciations for? Having two little series marathons which so coincidentally have this little munchkin acting in them, of course! I am not going to deny it, I do have a soft spot for Matt Smith (like who wouldn't after watching him as the Doctor?), so being someone who rarely goes out on Friday nights and would rather binge watch in the comforts of my own room than leaving the house, it is only reasonable that I have a little Matt-rathon going on. (Anyone realize that awful pun I just made? Of course you guys did... Don't worry, I'll see myself out.) By the way, I would highly recommend this two series as you get to see two very different sides of this little munchkin!

Dr Who

Read, Read and Read

Since the start of December 2015, I have developed a habit where I would read a Christmas-themed book to help get me in the spirit of Christmas. I may be a tad bit late to the party, but this year I'm reading "Let It Snow" by John Green, Lauren Myracle and Maureen Johnson. But being a little bookworm, I just had to finish the book before it was even the Christmas week. So shout out to my awesome friend for lending me "Girl Online On Tour" for me to be able to spend the remaining of the holiday season reading a Zoella novella! (PS, it's not really a novella, but I just thought it would go so well with the author's name...)

My reading list featuring two cute little ceramic puppers

GAMING-MAS!

Now, what's a Christmas without a little Christmas Gaming Video with my two all time favorite Youtubers, Dan and Phil? Before I say -or rather type- anything else, can I just say I'm extremely proud of this two Snowflakes for uploading one gaming video everyday till the 25th of December! For those 12 days leading up to Christmas, it was rather fun to share the festivity with two of my favorite people in this world, despite being through the computer screen. Needless to say, from seeing them create a family for Dil to finally completing the Undertale series, Gaming-mas was a good substitute for Vlogmas this year.

Spending Time with Family and Friends

Last but not least, for the past two months, I've been trying to catch up with old and new friends, not to mention my family members as well. Now, this may sound a tad bit cheesy, but it is after all, the season of love. And what better way to show the people in your life that you love them than spending quality time together? That is why I decided to cut down my lurking-around-the-internet time and started reconnecting with those people whom I may have taken for granted without even realizing it.

In the end, Christmas is the season of peace, love, hope and life. I hope you guys have done something meaningful this Christmas whenever and wherever you are. Before I blow off this candle (I'm surprise how I haven't burn down my room yet, seeing how clumsy I always am), I just want to wish all my readers a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Till next time, my little Nutt-crackers!

Those Stupid Little Things

Hello again, my little cinnamon buns.

Since I'm currently in college and the course I'm taking is Cambridge A Levels, I have recently finished the May-June examination of the AS paper and is currently at the beginning of my A2 program. I only took 3 subjects for my course, plus one General Studies. So naturally, my timetable isn't exactly very packed. In fact, it's actually really relaxing because I’ve chosen an 18 months program instead of the 12 months. Don't get me wrong, I’m still stressed out on whether or not I’ll pass the exams and is able to sustain my scholarship. Not to mention when everyone around you is saying how A Levels is a very hard course and how I must give up on my passion, hobbies and social life just to focus on my studies, it’s kind of hard to not stress about it. So, I did the most obvious thing whenever there’s an exam coming up, I stopped my part time job and spent most of my time cooped up in my room studying. I’m quite the genius there, right? *Note the sarcasm*

Anyways, the reason why I’m writing this blog today is because during the month-long period of my AS exams, I tend to get bored to death when I’m home alone with nothing to do but studying. And so, when I get bored, I may or may not watch a few episodes of Trophy Wife and The Adventures of Miraculous Ladybug and Chat Noir just so I don't feel like I'm the only living being in my house. (I’m only human. You can’t expect me to be able to just revise 24/7) It may be fun in the beginning, getting the whole house to yourself and having the long needed alone time you think so highly of. But when you start to have conversations with yourself and telling your dog how uneventful your day has been, you'll realize that you miss the time when you're laughing in a group of friends, and not laughing from funny moments from a television series.

Literally me whenever people ask me about Chat Noir
A few days later, I was driving home from college after an exam paper (it was a statistic paper, and surprisingly, it went pretty well for me), I saw a couple of street sweepers sitting and lying down under a tree near my housing area. It was a hot day, and they were just resting after their hard day of work. But what caught my eye particularly were two sweepers. They were kicking some kind of unknown fruit towards a tree trunk and was competing to be the one who can hit the bullseye. They were busy having a friendly competition and, at the same time, providing a little comedy show for their friends. It may be another sunny afternoon for them at work, and yet this simple and silly game were able to make them laugh and enjoy themselves. And this sparked up my inspiration to write this blog, are we taking advantage of these little things in life?

After being locked up in my room for so long, it's safe to say that I miss those stupid little things that seems so insignificant but would actually make your life a whole lot better. I missed the times when I was still in high school, how my whole class would have this small karaoke session when the teacher was fifteen minute late to class. I missed the times when that one person, who God so sparingly gave him a bunch of humor, in your group of friends started to do or say something unpredictable that made everybody laughed. And I definitely missed the times when I was having a pointless conversion with the people I cared for the most till late at nights because that’s when people are who they really are. I missed those little things, and I can’t believe that it had to take one A Levels exams to make me realize that.

I guess with that said, I will make sure to appreciate those stupid little things in life the next time I get to experience it. Like instead of rolling my eyes when my friend decided to tell me a pun, I’d laugh along with him and silently thanking God for making him so witty. Because for all I know, my life would be so much duller without those silly puns. Well, I think I’ll end today’s blogpost on a high note. The next time you experience these stupid little things, just remember to not take it for granted, but instead take a moment to appreciate it, ok? Besides, instead of giving out snide remarks about it, why not just do the same stupid little thing back? I bet it’d make your friends’ life a lot more funner. Bye bye now~

My Life Goals

'More wine, I think, Gracchus. You know, lad, when you are my age, if you should be lucky enough to live that long, when color and taste and even ambition have lost the brightness you think is so natural, I hope you will meet a young cockerel just like you are now - so you can see what I see. I hope you will remember me then. It is a bitter-sweet thing, believe me, but you will not understand until that day.'

Hello, my fellow humans!

Once again, with a facial mask on my face, I thought I'd do a little blogging before returning to the harsh realities of responsibilities and broken dreams called life... Now aren't we off to a good start? (Note the sarcasm.) So what prompted me to start blogging again after God knows how long was that small little paragraph I got after reading a book I borrowed from a friend of mine called Emperor : The Blood Of Gods. Somehow after reading that small paragraph, it occurs to me that one day, I may be in that very same position and saying the very same thing. Okay, not exactly the same, but something similar to it... You know the drill. That is why for today's blog, I'm thinking of listing out the things I want to do in the future in my current naive mindset and see whether I would achieve any of it when the time comes. Who knows, I may enjoy reading this blog post again in my twilight years, laughing at how innocent I was back then, while telling my grandchildren about how kick-ass awesome their grandma was and still is.

So without further a due, let's start listing!

The book I'm currently reading and the inspiration of this blog post.
No #1 : Science All The Way

Nerd Alert!
Since my current path is most likely leading towards the medical field (What? I'm an Asian, sue me) and if everything goes as plan, I'm seeing myself as a researcher in the medical field in the future. When that time really come, I'm expecting to see you, future Nutt, to invent this really awesome slash useful thing (Gosh knows what you're researching at that time) that would help the poor and the needy. Plus, an invention that could make your family proud too. Now isn't that very Asian of me. Might as well just cook some rice while I'm at it. "I stay home cook rice." (Only a true Ryan Higa fan will understand that *wink* *wink*)

No #2 : The Animal Rescue

A little side note about me, I have a soft spot for animal. Like, really. If I see a man getting beaten up in a video, the most I'll feel for the man is sympathy. But let me see a video of a poor, innocent animal getting beat up... Oh, sh*t is about to go down. I will sign thousands of petitions, pray to God for some efficient Karma, start a freaking campaign and even donate my whole bank account to hunt those people down if I have to. Anyways, I want you, Phyllis Nutt of the future, to volunteer at your nearby animal shelter and be that kick-ass hero you were born to be. Well, kind of... In all seriousness, I really want to see you save those poor creatures from their poverty and sufferings in the future.

No #3 : The Author

One of my favorite activities is writing. Be it a blog post, a novel, a short story or even a one shot, I love doing them all. And I'm guessing you do too, future Nutt. Therefore, I want you to publish a book. Yes, you heard me, publish a freaking book. I know you have and will have tons of terrific ideas for a story, so put them in good use. I want you to be able to feel your story as an object, not some virtual thing that is either going to be in your pen drive or your Wattpad account. Besides that, go visit places to be inspired. Sit in a cozy cafe for the whole day, sketching out ideas in the middle of a train station or even typing away in your laptop in some quiet place, just let your imagination run wild and free. I know it's what you always wanted, or at least that's what I've always wanted to do.

No #4 : The Award-Winning Actress

Okay, the title of this... Paragraph? Sub-topic? Fragment? Gee.. What do you even call this? Anyways, this title may be a little too exaggerating. What I really meant is that you would try acting for once. I've seen you act before (Well, mostly in the bathroom and in the comforts of your bedroom, but you get my point), and I'd say it's a waste if you don't try it out. Besides, you love acting, so I don't see why not. Maybe try starting out as a stunt woman or something, or even auditioning for a role in the local productions. Plus, if you really manage to succeed, you'd get to walk on that red carpet you always hope to walk on. But if you can't, don't pressure yourself. After all, it's all for the sake of fun.

No #5 : The Investor

Now I know you've never had any experience in finance or business when you were younger (Sorry, I just thought Science was more fun than Commerce), but you're never too old to learn. So don't fret, Phyllis from another decade. As long you're not buried in your grave, go learn to do some investing! I'm counting on you, future Phyllis. I'm rooting for you to be a millionaire someday. My (Or rather our) future is upon your hands now, so no pressure.

No #6 : The Sassy Homemaker

At some point of your life, I am sure you’re bound to get married and eventually have kids. Be it the influence you get from your friends or managing to find your soul mate, you will definitely settle down despite having that “I will be single forever” mantra stuck in your head. And when that time comes, don’t be the kind of wife or mother that always play by the rules or is strict as hell, be the type where you’re both responsible and fun, be the sassy homemaker! Fill your family with lame puns and sarcasm till the point where your husband and children have a hard time choosing between loving you or hating you, because trust me, there will be no in betweens.

No #6 : The World-Travelling Performer

Piano Around The World
Since you were a little girl, the thrills you get whenever you board a plane is enough to know that you have a heart for traveling. Besides that, I know you also like performing. (Wait… Of course I know that. You ARE me.) So why not merge this two interest of yours together. Travel the globe to learn new things and meet new people, and at the same time perform for the people around you, be like Piano Around The World. You can also cross out one of your bucket list by getting that standing ovation you always dream about. Don’t just go through the motions in life, be brave and take chances, after all, you only live once.

No #7 : The Sloth

Last but not least, just waste your time like a freaking pro. I know how stressful your future life is going to be, with all the responsibility and pressure and whatnot, but don’t ever forget to take a break every so often. I know how you work, and trust me, you don’t work well under pressure and stress. So please do remember to just take a day off and relax, waste the day away because you deserve it. It can be a lazy day with a cozy couch, a book and a glass of warm tea, or a day spent watching Studio C or other comedy sitcom, just take a break and recharge. I can assure you, you will be better the next day.

Well, I guess this is it for today. After writing all of these, I'm beginning to feel it's more like life goals to achieve rather than just a list of things I want to do in the future. Nevertheless, at least this blogpost can give me some directions in life, so I want be just drifting through aimlessly. Before I go off, can I just say it feels so GREAT blogging again. Hahaha... Happy Blogging!
